Monster Hunter Tri

Hunting Tips!

The hunt is on!

Ssssh! Be vewwy qwiet. We're hunting...monsters? Yep, forget bunny rabbits - monsters are what the real hunters are after these days, thanks to the awesome Monster Hunter Tri! This is a super tough game though, so don't go thinking you can just run up to the biggest beasts in the game, tickle their tummy and watch them roll over. You'll need to study them, learn their ways, and strike at their weak spots. Of course, you could always get a head start with our tips for the toughest critters in the game...

Qurupeco

This weird dodo creature may not look too dangerous, but just you wait until it opens its mouth! The Qurupeco's deadliest ability allows it to mimic the call of other monsters, luring them in to fight you as well. On top of that, it can create explosions, spit bogies that lower your defence and even do a special dance to restore its health - or the health of other monsters. Luckily, the Qurupeco has a weakness - ice! - and if you direct your attacks at the throat sac that creates its cries, you'll not only stop it summoning help, but will earn bonus goodies as well!

Lagiacrus

The lead monster bad guy of the game, this terrifying sea serpent comes ashore to sunbathe, but don't make the mistake of thinking it's less dangerous on land! Its electrical attacks are lethal, and its heavy armour makes it difficult to damage. Aim for the spikes on its back to reduce its electrical powers, but the truly brave will strike when it's submerged. Swim alongside it, attacking its soft underbelly - you'll do loads more damage that way!

Great Jaggi

If you're unlucky, the Qurupeco will summon one of these. If you're lucky, the Great Jaggi will attack the Qurupeco instead of you! Guess he doesn't like being bossed around! If you're facing one alone, be aware that it can call smaller Jaggis to aid in the fight. However, go for the head and use fire-based weapons and attacks, and this monster isn't nearly as tough as he looks! If you get really desperate, just throw a dung bomb at him. That usually scares him away. Well, can you blame him?

Rathian

This female monster has a sting in her tail - literally! Those spikes can poison you, so make you keep an eye on it as it swishes about. It's that big ugly head you should be focussing on, however. Keep clobbering her there with cutting weapons or thunder attacks to wear down her stamina quickly. You'll know she's ready for the kill when she starts to stumble and can only fire useless puffs of flame rather than giant fireballs. Once defeated, you can use the Carving Celebrity on her tail to nab yourself some excellent armour pieces.
