Super Street Fighter IV

characters!

Super Street Fighter IV has one of the biggest - and wackiest - casts of beefy brawlers in fighting game history. Want to meet them? Well, here they are!

Abel

This French martial artist is covered in mysterious scars. He has amnesia and can't remember who he is. When they meet, Bison hints that Abel might be a prototype for Seth.

Adon

Adon uses Muay Thai boxing moves, and first appeared in the original Street Fighter back in 1987. He is Sagat's former pupil and bitter rival, and returns in Super Street Fighter IV looking for revenge.

Akuma

Gouken's younger brother, the brutal Akuma's name means "devil" in Japanese so you know he's not a good guy! Originally a secret boss character from Super Street Fighter II Turbo, his special move - Instant Hell Murder - is as nasty as it sounds!

balrog

This American boxer was originally called M. Bison, a joke on the name of boxer Mike Tyson. Rather than annoy the real Tyson, Capcom shuffled the names of their boss characters around. Probably a wise idea!

M. Bison

The big villain of the Street Fighter series, Bison wants to take over the world using his sinister crime organisation, Shadaloo. Someone should probably tell him his evil empire sounds like it makes portable toilets!

blanka

Originally raised in the jungle, this green-skinned and orange-haired warrior uses electrical super-powers. By the time of Street Fighter IV, Blanka was reunited with his mother, but decides to travel the world rather than embarass her with his strange appearance.

Cammy

Once brainwashed by Shadaloo and used as an assassin, Cammy broke free from Bison's control and now fights against him as an agent of Delta Red. She was played by pop star Kylie Minogue in the 1994 Street Fighter movie!

Chun Li

Bison murdered Chun Li's father, and she's been trying to get revenge ever since. She was introduced in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior in 1991, making her the first ever playable female character in a fighting game! A movie based around the character was released in 2009, starring Smallville's Kristin Kruek, but it's complete poop. Stick to the games!

Cody

Along with Guy, Cody first appeared in scrolling beat-em-up series Final Fight. He appears in a prison uniform in Super Street Fighter IV after being arrested at the end of Final Fight Revenge in 1999 for a crime he didn't commit.

Dan

Arrogant and foolish, Dan Hibiki was introduced in Street Fighter Alpha to make fun of rival series, Art of Fighting. His appearance in Super Street Fighter IV jokes about his history as a fighting failure and has him still trying to recruit new students for his unpopular martial arts style.

Dee Jay

As his name suggests, this Jamaican kickboxing character uses musical rhythms in his fighting. In Super Street Fighter IV he takes a break from his successful pop career to take part in the tournament.

Dhalsim

One of the most popular Street Fighter characters, this mystical warrior uses Kabbadi, a yoga-based fighting style which allows him to stretch his arms and legs - even his neck! This makes him very useful as a long range fighter. He opposes Bison as he feels he is an evil spirit.

Dudley

Another new addition for Super Street Fighter IV, this posh British boxer uses quick, short hard-hitting punches and fast footwork to evade incoming strikes. He originally appeared in Street Fighter 3, trying to find the man who bought his dad's car!

E Honda

This beefy sumo wrestler has been part of the Street Fighter gang ever since the second game, back in 1991. He fights in order to improve the popularity of sumo around the world, but has also clashed with Bison after he found the naughty dictator was selling drugs to his fellow wrestlers.

El Fuerte

A Mexican wrestler, or luchadore, El Fuerte hides his identity behind a leather mask. He is fond of cookery and has a rivalry with T. Hawk. His name sadly doesn't mean "The Fart" in Spanish, but "The Strong One" which isn't nearly as fun.

Fei Long

A tribute to kung fu legend Bruce Lee, Fei Long is an action movie star from Hong Kong. His new Ultra move in Super Street Fighter IV ends with the famous One Inch Punch. In real life, Bruce Lee was supposed to be able to knock people over with just his fingertips!

Gen

This old man may look wimpy, but he's been scrapping with the Street Fighter crew since 1987. Chun Li's father was once his student, and his relationship with the feisty female fighter is a difficult one.

gouken

Ryu and Ken's martial arts master, Gouken is also the older brother of the wicked Akuma. Although he's been part of the Street Fighter story for years, Gouken wasn't actually a playable character until his secret appearance in Street Fighter IV.

Guile

An American soldier, Guile is yet another character with a grudge against Bison. This time it's because Bison killed Guile's army buddy, Charlie. Guile is easy to remember as his hair is made from an upside-down lampshade.

Guy

Look at him. Pouting and posing like he's in a boyband. Like Cody, Guy is another character who hopped aboard the Street Fighter train from the Final Fight series. Trained as a ninja, his favourite things are punching, shouting and wearing orange pyjamas.

Hakan

Another new character for Super Street Fighter IV, Hakan is a Turkish wrestler who runs an olive oil company. His fighting style involves covering himself in slippery oil, making him difficult to grab. No, really!

Ibuki

Ibuki is a Japanese schoolgirl who is also a ninja. She loves pop music, boys and throwing sharp things at bad guys. Fast and nimble, do not underestimate this fighter just because of her cute appearance!

Juri

One of Seth's agents, Juri is a Korean martial artist whose fighting style is based on Taekwondo. Codenamed "Spider", she enjoys toying with her opponents before finishing them off.

Ken

Along with his best friend and sparring partner Ryu, Ken is one of the original heroes of the Street Fighter series and one of a handful of characters to appear in all the games. His Shōryūken special move, which he shares with Ryu, is one of the most famous in gaming, setting opponents on fire. He's been Barbie's boyfriend for many, many happy years.

Makoto

A young female karate expert, Makoto fights to rebuild her family dojo after her brother chooses a career in business instead of getting punched in the face for a living. One of the most versatile characters in the game, Makoto's rather boring appearance means that lots of new players overlook her strengths.

Rose

Using her mystical "Soul Power" to try and halt Bison's reign of terror, Rose discovered that she and Bison shared two halves of the same soul. At the end of Street Fighter Alpha 3, the defeated Bison even took over Rose's body! Needless to say, in Super Street Fighter IV she wants to put an end to him for good!

Rufus

Described by producer Yoshinori Ono as a "weird fat guy", Rufus' bizarre appearance confused many fans when he debuted in Super Street Fighter IV. Spend some time with him, however, and you'll discover a character that is more than just a joke. He's unusual, but in the right hands he can be one of the game's toughest fighters.

Ryu

The lead character of the Street Fighter series, Ryu has appeared in dozens of games and even in anime cartoons. Best friend of Ken, pupil of Gouken, he battles purely to improve his skills. For Super Street Fighter IV he's been given an awesome new Ultra move called Destructive Rising Dragon Fist!

Sagat

The final boss character of the original 1987 Street Fighter arcade game, Sagat started out as Ryu's bitter rival. Recruited by Bison, Sagat eventually turned his back on the bad guy ways when he learned that Bison planned to operate on Ryu to steal his power. In Super Street Fighter IV, Ryu and Sagat are now cautious allies.

Sakura

Sakura was inspired to take up fighting after watching Ryu in action. Her idol refuses to train her, however, as he feels he still has too much to learn himself. At the end of her story mode in Street Fighter IV, Sakura tried to help Ryu with disastrous results. She also appears in Rival Schools, another Capcom fighting game based around a tournament between Japanese high schools.

Seth

The big blue villain of Street Fighter IV, this cruel cyborg is the head of weapons company S.I.N. His special moves are all based on other characters' abilities, such as Guile's Sonic Boom or Ryu and Ken's Shōryūken attack. Many Street Fighter fans have complained that Seth's abilities make him annoying to fight against, breaking the game's carefully constructed balance.

T. Hawk

A Native American warrior, Thunder Hawk has a long history of battling against Shadaloo - yes, he's another character whose father was murdered by Bison! In Super Street Fighter IV, he's on the trail of his sister, who has gone missing. T. Hawk's rival is Mexican wrestler El Fuerte, who is seeking revenge for a previous defeat.

Vega

With his Wolverine-style claws, this Spanish character combines elements of ninjitsu with bullfighting techniques. Incredibly vain, he wears a mask to protect his face from damage, and was recruited by Bison after his ruthless skills made him famous on the Spanish cage fighting scene. He is one of the only Street Fighter characters to always carry a weapon.

Viper

Viper, or Crimson Viper to use her full codename, is a double agent. Though she works for Seth's S.I.N. organisation, she is secretly working for the CIA to bring him down. She wears a special combat suit that allows her to use electric, earthquake and fire attacks. Because of this, she has to be very careful when she goes to the loo.

Zangief

This Russian wrestler has been a constant character in the Street Fighter games for almost twenty years. Slow but powerful, he was also one of the first fighting game characters to base his attacks around grappling rather than punching and kicking. His fighting style is based on Sambo, a real Russian contact sport developed by the army.
