Tony Hawk: Ride

Game Info

It comes with a full-size skateboard controller, so Tony Hawk RIDE is the closest thing you’ll get to real skateboarding in a videogame! It’s tough to learn how to do tricks though, so here are our Megaton tips for how to pull them off.

Ollie and Nollie!

This is the most basic trick, and it’s dead easy to do. Place your back foot on the back curve of the board.

Press down with your back foot to lift the front of the board. Try and keep it straight!

Bring the board back down quickly, and your character should do an Ollie!

Do steps 1-3 with your front foot on the front curve to pull off a Nollie!

Ollie Setup!

This lets you do some of the more advanced tricks, so try to do this whenever you can to get a super score!

Move your back foot to the very back of the board so it’s above the back sensor. Hold on to something if you think you’re going to slip!

Watch the screen carefully. If your character crouches down, you’re doing it right!

Now your flips and tricks will be different, and you’ll score more points for pulling them off!

Manual!

This lets you link tricks together, so it’s worth practicing until you get it right!

Move your back foot to the back curve of the board, and your front foot just behind the front curve.

Lean back a little bit so you’re just lifting the front of the board a tiny bit off the ground!

Be careful not to move the board to either side, otherwise you’ll lose the manual! Keep your balance and you’ll be fine!

Kick Flip!

You’ll need good balance to pull off a kick flip! Try moving your front foot so it’s facing forwards, not sideways.

Pop an Ollie, then use your back foot to tilt the board to one side as you’re bringing it down. Tricky!

Keep trying if you can’t get it right. Make sure you’re just tilting the board and not changing direction!

Then try tilting it to the other side for a heel flip!

Invert!

An invert is a grab trick which you do when you’re at the top of a pipe. Change direction slowly so you move smoothly up the curve!

Wait until you’re about three-quarters of the way up and bend down so you’re ready to grab!

Move your hand in front of one of the board’s sensors and you’ll do an invert!

Some people find it easier to use their front foot on the front sensor. Try it and see which way you like best!

Shove It!

This is a trick you do from a manual position, so make sure you tilt the board backwards a tiny bit!

Lift the board quickly with your back foot, and rotate the board left or right. Then bring it back down to the normal position, facing forwards!

Remember to keep the front off the ground to keep doing the manual.

Don’t forget, you can do this from a reverse manual, too – use your back foot to turn the board to one side instead!

Air Walk!

This is one of the special tricks. You need to build your special meter by doing other tricks first. Try some of the ones on these pages!

When your meter is full, pop an Ollie so you’re in the air, ready for a grab trick!

Because you’ve filled the meter, your character will do a different trick from normal! So grab the front sensor for a nose grab…

…and you’ll pull off an Air Walk instead! Wicked!
