It’s a-him, Mario!
Yes, the blue-trousered plumber is finally back with an all-new adventure and, of course, Bowser has kidnapped the Princess yet again so it’s up to Mario to go and free her. Just like the last game, he does this by exploring weird and wacky 3D planets, sometimes even hopping from one space sphere to another as he collects the stars needed to finally confront his scaly enemy.
What about cool new stuff? Don’t worry – there’s plenty of that to go around! Mario can now drill into planets, turn into a rock to smash through obstacles and even create clouds to reach higher areas. There’s even a larger map that Mario can explore in a spaceship shaped like his own face. We always knew he was a big head, but that’s ridiculous!
There’s even fun for more than one player this time. Friends can join in as a Luma, one of those cute blobby star creatures, and help out by bashing enemies or holding on to useful items until Mario needs them. If that’s not enough, the game will even help you out, taking over and playing through tough sections for you. Be warned though, you won’t get the proper star rating if you do this!
Mario’s brother, Luigi, is also back with more special challenges in which you have to complete levels against a tough time limit set by the game’s creators. He’s not the only playable member of the Mario gang in the game though. Mario’s dinosaur pal Yoshi makes his first appearance in the series, and brings a mouthful of cool tricks with him. While riding on Yoshi’s back, you can use the Wii remote to aim his long, sticky tongue and use it to swing and slurp your way around the levels. Gross!
