Although they're new to us, the Professor Layton games have been a smash hit in Japan for ages. Unwound Future actually came out over there back in 2008, but has only now been fully translated into English!

This time around, the Prof's latest adventure is set in motion by a mysterious letter from his young apprentice Luke. The weird thing is, the letter comes from ten years in the future! It warns that London is about to be thrown into chaos, and so Professor Layton and Luke must use a time machine along with their blockbusting brainwork to put things right!

What's next?

The next two games in the series are prequels, set before Professor Layton and the Curious Village. The Specter's Flute came out in Japan in November 2009, while The Mask of Miracle will follow next year. The Japanese have also been able to enjoy the very first Professor Layton movie, an animated epic from the director of Pokemon, called Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. It'll be out on DVD in the UK later this year.
