Okamiden is an action adventure, similar to the Legend of Zelda games. You control Chibiterasu as you explore the world, but the way you interact with things is pretty clever. Press either of the shoulder buttons and the game freezes. Your view of the world on the top screen drops down to the bottom screen, where it appears as if it's drawn on paper. You can now use your stylus to paint your actions into the world!
Chibiterasu isn't alone on his journey. He can team up with different companions, with each one helping him develop different abilities and powers. One is a mermaid who can help you explore underwater. Another lets you see into the spirit world! Our fave is Manpuku - his fire skills are really useful!
Okamiden is a great game if you like epic Japanese adventure games, but fancy something a little bit different. The graphics look fantastic - like paintings brought to life - and there's enough here to keep you exploring and brushing for ages.
When demons threaten the world, Konohana Sprite Sakuya summons the celestial wolf goddess Amaterasu to save the day. Unfortunately, she gets Amaterasu's son, Chibiterasu, instead - an excitable and emotional young wolf cub who is still learning his incredible powers! Looks like it's up to you to help him out!
Attack enemies with bold brush strokes! Bring colour and life back to barren places with some nimble paint work! It's a really cool way of playing, and it's a perfect fit for the DS. We're just disappointed it's not available for the 3DS - this game would look amazing in 3D!
Okamiden is the sequel to Okami, which told the story of Chibiterasu's mother. It appeared on PlayStation 2 and the Wii. If you like Okamiden, you should definitely give it a try!
