First Look!!
Play time!
Buzz, Woody and all the gang are finally back on the big screen in the long awaited Toy Story 3. Do you think there might be a game to go along with it? Go on, take a wild guess!
The cool thing about Toy Story 3 is that it's not just another left-to-right platform game. Nope, this time you're getting an all-new ToyBox mode that lets you wander around the cowboy town of Woody's Roundup and explore the game however you please. You'll be able to add new buildings, dress up the little plastic townsfolk and complete over 100 Gold Star challenges as you go along. It's just like playing with real toys - but without the tidying up! Result!
Just like the movie, this game is really funny. There are loads of great jokes, as well as plenty of weird moments that will make you laugh out loud. Almost all the cast from the movie have returned for the game, but a different guy voices Buzz Lightyear while Woody is voiced by Jim Hanks, the brother of movie star Tom who voices the real Woody in the movie. Got that? Don't worry though - you won't be able to tell. All the voices are absolutely perfect!
Urgh, it's Zurg!
PlayStation 3 owners get a few special treats in their version of the game. As well as exclusive minigames that use the PlayStation Move motion controller, you'll get Emperor Zurg as a playable character in the ToyBox mode. Not bad, eh?
As well as the make-it-up fun of ToyBox Mode, the game also includes a Story Mode, of course. This lets you play through levels based on the movie, as the toys deal with the fact that their owner, Andy, has grown up. After being donated to a nursery populated by terrifying toddlers, the gang break out and try to track Andy down. Some of these levels are a bit fiddly and annoying, but it's worth sticking with them, just to relive the movie. The game gives you plenty of help as well - you'll never be stuck for long!
There are loads of collectables to find, from cute costumes to use in Woody's Roundup to collector's cards hidden in the story mode. Find all of the cards in each set to unlock more games in Al's Toy Barn!
The Toy Story 3 game has enough little annoying bits to stop it being really great, and you'll finish everything in Woody's Roundup a little too quickly, but it's easily one of the best movie-based games you'll play this year. If you love the movie, you'll love the game. It's that simple.
